Slumbering Roses

Silken sad tears descend

So fitfully – so fearfully

My sad fancy

Eternal dew comes down in drops

And weeps from above

And a deep thunder roar’s

Lightning flashes – bright

wonder to my wild happy heart

It leaps within me at

Each crash and roar – the rain

Falling down on my head

The wind tearing at my hair

The breathing beauty of

The Strom

The storm had ceased

The pearly luster of the moon

Went out – come to life and fade away

Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall

No footsteps stir – only me and the shadows

What care I how time advances

While the winds were hushed in slumber

My soul in mystery to step

For I was not as I was before

To breath the slumbering roses

How dark a woe yet how sublime a hope

This garden is enchanted

So in tears the

Rare and radiant flowers grow
