All the World Fallen Asleep

The pale Moon

Washes the trees with silver

In melancholy loveliness

I have tried for hours

To sleep and no luck

I lie in the dark

Tonight the shadows

Seem like everything

The total sky

My heart beats

Dancing to the rhythm

Of the rain

All the world fallen

Asleep – but me

Walking so carefully

Through the night

The moon is bright

And the stars are singing

Miserable and sleepy

At last I grow peaceful

Reaching into the darkness

Between the wild

And shapeless air

The mornings everywhere!
