Lonely Stuff

i am the stars laughter
i am the moon’s sorrow
the breath inside
a summer breeze
i belong to no one
i live only in
these words

listen to my voice
as the dark wind
scatters you within
the pages where
nothing was written

i am made of lonely stuff
honey words, tender mercies,
fairytales, far too many
rhymes we say, we moan, we pray
draining you of
sense, of spirit, of tears

i bet you think i’m sweet
my words
smooth maple syrup
dripping down your throat
see how broken taste

unsing my song
unread my poem
i am the quiet, hands empty
a single thought in the night
dark mistakes clinging
to your skin
your lips to mine
tongue full of words
you so desperately
need to taste
